P320 Recoil Spring by Grayguns
One advantage of the P320s with the 4.7-inch* and 5-inch barrels is the ability to run standard 1911 springs and easily switch between different spring weights.
Grayguns introduced our P320 Guide Rod for the full-size 4.7-inch barrel and provided Team SIG shooters with different springs for testing. The combination of different ammunition loads, power factors, slide mass, and weight will have different recoil characteristics (soft to harsh). The ability to select different spring weights is a big advantage.
The factory spring weight for the full-size and X-Five versions of the P320 is about 18 pounds. Most Team SIG members chose a 15-pound spring weight.
P320 Recoil Spring Suggestions
Grayguns suggests testing multiple spring weights; depending on the situation, you may use a different spring. For example, a 12.5-pound spring may be appropriate for USPSA Steel Challenge matches when you are shooting “light” loads. A 15-pound spring may be appropriate when shooting a 4.7- or 5-inch slide for USPSA matches.
We are finding that customers running our P320 Modern Classic, Lockwood, and Mason Lane slides find a 14-pound spring the right match because the slide’s mass and weight are different from those of the factory slide.
We also suggest purchasing different spring weights to test if you are running a custom slide from another manufacturer with a standard guide rod (not a captured system). These springs are inexpensive, and we suggest changing them between 2,500 and 5,000 cycles.
Guide Rod Spring Sizes
Grayguns offers three weights, each identified by a different color. All will work with P320 4.7- and 5-inch guide rods.

P320 Guide Rod Notes
*The factory guide rod and recoil spring for the P320 Full Size (4.7-inch) barrel is a captured guide rod. These springs are not a replacement for those assemblies. You will need to add one of our P320 Guide Rods, available in Stainless Steel or Stainless Steel with a Super Black finish. Note: our P320 guide rods for the P320 include a 15-pound spring.
