EGW Drop-In Flat Bottom Firing Pin Stop for Springfield Prodigy & MAC 9 DS

Transform the feel and shootability of your Springfield Prodigy or MAC 9 DS with the EGW Drop-In Flat Bottom Firing Pin Stop. Unlike universal parts that require tedious filing, this component is precision-machined to the specific dimensions of these slides for a true drop-in fit. It features a square-bottom ("flat") profile that significantly delays the slide unlocking, reducing felt recoil and muzzle flip for faster, flatter follow-up shots.

Firearm Compatibility

This Firing Pin Stop Fits:

  • Springfield 1911 DS Prodigy (3.5" Model)
  • Springfield 1911 DS Prodigy (4.25" Model)
  • Springfield 1911 DS Prodigy (5" Model)
  • MAC 9 1911 DS

The EGW Solution for Your Pistol

The secret to a flatter-shooting pistol is mechanical advantage. Here’s why our FPS is the superior choice:

  •  True Drop-In Fit (No Filing): We have dimensioned this part specifically for the Springfield Prodigy and MAC 9 DS slide geometry. You can install it in minutes without needing files, stones, or a gunsmith.
  •  Prevents Extractor Turning (Clocking): Machined to tighter tolerances than the factory part, this stop fits snugly to prevent the extractor from rotating. Keeping the extractor locked in proper alignment ensures consistent ejection and reliability.
  •  Flat Bottom Profile (Small Radius): Unlike the rounded factory part, our flat bottom profile reduces the slide's mechanical advantage over the hammer. This delays unlocking, absorbs more recoil energy, and keeps the muzzle flatter.
  •  Machined from Solid Steel: We don't use MIM. This part is machined from solid carbon steel and heat-treated, ensuring it will not peen, crack, or deform under high round counts.
  •  Proudly Made in the USA: Every component is manufactured in our Quakertown, PA facility, guaranteeing the highest level of quality control.

System Optimization & Tuning Recommendations

Because the flat bottom profile significantly changes how the slide reciprocates (by slowing it down and delaying unlocking), we recommend tuning your recoil and ignition system for the best performance:

  • Recoil Spring: Due to the increased resistance from the flat-bottom stop, you may need to switch to a lighter recoil spring to ensure the slide cycles fully and reliably with your chosen ammunition.
  • Mainspring (Hammer Spring): To further optimize the trigger feel and slide cycle, many shooters pair this stop with our 19lb or 17lb Mainspring.
  • Firing Pin Upgrade (Prodigy Owners): If you install a lighter mainspring (17lb or 19lb), the Springfield Prodigy's factory titanium firing pin may not have enough mass to reliably ignite primers. We highly recommend upgrading to our EGW Stainless Steel Firing Pin to ensure 100% reliable ignition.

How does a "flat bottom" reduce recoil?
A standard rounded firing pin stop cams the hammer back easily. A flat-bottom stop hits the hammer lower on its face, reducing leverage. This means the slide has to work harder to cock the hammer, which saps rearward energy from the slide. The result is lower slide velocity and less recoil force transferred to your hand.

Why do I need a stainless firing pin with a lighter mainspring?
Specifically for the Springfield Prodigy, the gun comes with a lightweight titanium firing pin. If you reduce the power of your hammer spring (mainspring) to 17lb or 19lb, the hammer may not strike the light titanium pin hard enough to reliably set off primers. Our heavier Stainless Steel Firing Pin carries more momentum, ensuring reliable ignition even with a lighter mainspring.
