1911 vs 2011 — Platform Guide
The terms "1911" and "2011" refer to related but distinct platforms:
- 1911 (Single Stack) — the original John Browning design. Single-stack magazine, narrower grip. Popular for USPSA Single Stack division and IDPA ESP/CDP. Platforms: Colt, Kimber (standard models), Springfield, Wilson Combat, and custom builds.
- 2011 (Double Stack) — the double-stack evolution of the 1911, introduced by STI in the 1990s. Higher magazine capacity, wider grip module, dominant in USPSA Open and Limited. Platforms: Staccato, Atlas, SVI, Springfield Prodigy, Kimber 2K11, and custom builds.
Magazine geometry matters: Two primary 2011 magazine tube patterns exist — Staccato/Check-Mate pattern (used by Staccato P/XC/C, Springfield Prodigy, Kimber 2K11) and Atlas pattern (used by Staccato HD, custom 2011 builds with SVI/STI frames, Atlas Gunworks, MBX Extreme). These are not interchangeable. Always verify your pistol's magazine pattern before ordering.
